Why this project?
Hello to all !
The precariousness experienced by several monastic and religious communities in the Holy Land over the past year affects me a lot !
These religious communities used to derive a large part of their resources from the sale of handmade products (art and religious crafts, food, etc.) to pilgrims visiting the places where they live and pray (Jerusalem, Mount of Olives, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Abu Gosh, etc.).
After more than a year of the pandemic, several religious and monastic communities in the Holy Land are in a very precarious situation due to the cessation of pilgrimages.
A day of cultural encounters and direct sales will be organized in the Holy Land on Saturday, June 5 at the Abbey of Abu Gosh with a dozen religious communities. They will be able to sell their products directly to the participants on this day. We are looking to mobilize as many visitors as possible (see the Facebook page below: https://fb.me/e/6yHHkJXUZ). This direct sale on the spot will necessarily be limited because of the few people present in the Holy Land at the moment. We therefore hope to be able to mobilize the generosity of donors who wish to show their solidarity with the religious communities of the Holy Land from a distance. All the donations collected by Secours Catholique via this online collection will be given to the communities present on June 5th.
Help us finance this project. Your financial support is essential to make it happen.
A big thank you to all!
If you are a French taxpayer, you can deduct 75% of the amount of your donation from your income tax! (up to 1000€, 66% beyond)
Thus, a donation of 200 € will cost you only 50 €.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to collect 40.000€ by June 14th to financially support several religious and monastic communities in the Holy Land, which are in a very precarious situation due to the end of pilgrimages.
This online collection and the proceeds from the June 5 sale will allow the religious communities to meet their own daily living expenses, and to support families in need in their neighborhoods until the return of the first pilgrims expected in 2022.
The funds collected in this campaign will be allocated to religious communities that have no other resources than hosting and selling their crafts to pilgrims. They have been selected on the basis of their resources and needs, in agreement with the Latin Patriarchate.
Did you know that ?
Secours Catholique - Caritas France runs a religious guest-house in Jerusalem for pilgrims living in precarious situations. This guest-house has been wanted by Pope Paul VI in 1964 to host poor pilgrims of all religions in Jerusalem.
Groups of people in precarious situations in France have been mobilizing for two years to come to the Holy Land. This year, five groups of 50 pilgrims in precarious situations are expected to come to the House of Abraham between September and November 2021 for a unique pilgrimage in their lives.
Online donations are also organized on our platform "My donation makes sense" to support their pilgrimage in the footsteps of Jesus.
